The morning is so very still.  The lake surface is like polished glass.  MV Menominee has had clear steaming the length of Lake Erie.  It is now entering the outer harbor of Port Colborne, Ontario.  It will continue its journey down the Welland canal, to Lake Ontario, and finally to its destination port, Örnsköldsvik, Sweden.  The deep bass rumble from the ship’s engines penetrates the stillness.  The sound, felt more than heard, further amplifies the depth of the morning calm.
