Dear Gallery Patron,
The next show at Image City Photography Gallery is "Urban Influence", work by friends Evelyne Albanese and Richard Harvey.
The show is unique and creative. I feel it is exceptional. The artists are acknowledged and accomplished. Both have had numerous exhibits, won awards and been published. Albanese is noted primarily for her painting as well as photography and Harvey for his drawings, collage work, digital printmaking, sculpture and photography.
The images they have created have a photographic element while incorporating other media. The process of implementing this mixed media approach is sophisticated, resulting in a fascinating impressionistic reflection of a
topical theme.
States Harvey, "This show demonstrates how I mix photographs with my own art work to create figurative digital collages produced as fine art archival prints. By fragmenting and repositioning elements of the original
photographic images, such as graffiti, into a digital collage, I aim to create a different way of using and seeing photography. I digitally manipulate photographs along with my own scanned drawings and special effects to create the final image."
Albanese comments, "I have always loved photography, especially its ability to evoke memory. Being primarily a painter I was trying to figure out a way to incorporate the two. Using photo transfer techniques I knew I had found
what I was looking for. It was exactly the vehicle that I needed to do the work." Indeed it was! The pieces are stunning compilations of artistry.
Harvey's work, with sketched faces, personifies urban issues and emotions. Albanese's images evoke personal memories. She states "the roots of my history were and will remain the lens of my reality". Harvey's source and
inspiration are cities in the United States and Canada. Albanese revisits, in her photographic element, the Swiss cities of her youth. Harvey incorporates poetry, i.e. "Hope", by Rochester poet Wanda Schubmehl into a large dramatic and poignant image on war and human loss. A wall panel, within the show, will exhibit and explain the multi-faceted sophisticated process. A scheduled Artists Talk, with both artists, will include further elaboration on this process.
Evelynešs painting/photography compositions will be sold as works of original art. Prints of this work, in limited additions, will also be available. Richard pieces are also limited editions.
The show runs from May 23 through June 17. The Artists Reception is on Friday, May 25, 5 - 8:30. p.m. The Artists Talk (both) is on Thursday May 31, 7 p.m. Admission is free.
Also showing are three guest photographers, four Artists in Residence and seven gallery partners.
